NepTunes for iTunes & Spotify App Reviews

Great work, but no Apple Music support yet

Thank you for this stable app. Is it possible to add scrobbling for Apple Music lists, For You, New and/or radio?

Scrobbler & more

Bought it to have a lightweight scrobbler for Apple Music with quick access to my last.fm page. Now suddenly I have a full-blown iTunes Desktop controller - wow! Very stable and reliable app, highly recommended!

Works pretty well!

It works well for what it does.

Exactly what I wanted

Works great and does exactly what I need. Often updates are a good sight that it will be continually supported.

安定・安心のLast.fm Scrobbler

Best scribbler I have ever used

Small and simple - it does everything I need: just scrobbling everything from iTunes. Don’t like the official scrobbler, because it is a seperate window, but this one is just sitting in your menu bar and does its work perfectly. Maybe there will be a cool feuture to show a popup with currently playing song lyrics. Just dreaming :)

Best scrobbler for OS X

With frequent latest updates this app became the best scrobbler for OS X, thanks to developer!

it’s perfect!

all works well

++

Great app, works perfect! But with last update you have changed icon, and it’s lost all individuatity and charm!

What happened to the icon? Still great.

Update: Review below still applies, however I will add that I wish the short lived "new icon" stayed. This one is just so out of place and matches nothing else in the dock. The other one matched iTunes beautifully and looked miles better. Had I known we’d regress back to this one, I’d have saved the previous icon file and used it on further updates. But since an app is more than just an icon read below: For a heavy iTunes/Last.fm user, this is the perfect app. Removes the need for the site’s scrobbling app which is clunky and far outdated, and replaces it with a sleek, heavily useful (great iTunes controller) app that sits quietly, and out of the way in the menu bar, scrobbles better than the official app, and has some amazing functionality it adds to iTunes. Thank you so much for creating this app!

Keeps getting better!

NepTunes is hands-down the best way to get iTunes to scrobble reliably, and the tight integration with iTunes and Spotify are top-notch. You can configure it to work silently as a Last.fm scrobbler or as a fully-featured controller that displays album artwork and controls your music from one place and anything in between. Plenty of options to make it work exactly as you need it to. This app is completely worth the cost of admission.

Good but Lacking Programmable Play/Pause Hotkey

I like the app and, like many others, am using it to replace the defunct CoverSutra. My only complaint is it lacks a programmable play/pause hotkey shortcut. It has mute, volume up, volume down, rating up, rating down, and some hotkeys for Last.fm but no play/pause. Too bad. ***UPDATE*** Version 1.5 just came out and the developer added play/pause as well as next/previous track programmable hot keys. Much appreciated. I am changing my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Netptunes now is a complete replacement app for CoverSutra. If the app was capable of displaying song lyrics I would give it 6 stars! ;)

Goes above and beyond what I’ve been looking for.

I’ve been using a mix of Emcee, Muzzy, and BarTunes to control my music and scrobble it to my last.fm. But Emcee was broken which was why started using BarTunes (which, to be fair is a pretty decent app to control and view your iTunes). It ultimately only worked half the time. Muzzy was suitable for last.fm scrobbles, but I don’t think it was scrobbling my Apple Music tracks and didn’t work half the time. Not to mention it hadn’t been updated in years. So anyway, I was despearate to find a better last.fm scrobbling option and was reluctant to pay for yet another one. But this dev seriously seems to care about continuting develeopment and keeping this applet stable. It scrobbles all my iCloud Match and Apple Music tracks flawlessly in iTunes, it has macOS Sierra support which I can’t wait to update to later today, it has a really awesome album art funtion to notify you when a new track is on and allow you to admire the album art, custom keyboard shortcuts, and you can set it to love your current track on both last.fm and iTunes/Apple Music. So far, it seems really stable and haven’t had any issues yet. Can’t wait for an iOS version as last.fm scrobbling is seriously lacking on that platform. Anyway, get NepTunes if you want a quality scrobbler that can handle Apple Music!

Does Exactly What It Says

I’ve been loookinh for a FREE app to scrobble to Last.FM for a while, and this does exactly what it says it does, and that is scrobble to Last.FM! Maybe add your LAST 10 SONGS PLAYED to the menu item. Perfect.

A scrobbler that works. Finally!

I have tested pretty much every single Last.fm scrobbler for Mac - paid and free - and Ive always had some weird issues with those apps. Duplicates, missing scrobbles, inconsistencies, performance problems... frustrating stuff. Last.fms own official client was by far the worst of the bunch and broke with every iTunes update. With NepTunes I have finally found a scrobbler that does what its supposed to do - I can set and forget this app, I dont have to worry about my Last.fm profile being updated and I dont have to hunt for duplicates. NepTunes just works. Also, NepTunes is the only scrobbler I know of that is actively developed. While NepTunes is great as it is, there are two things I would love to see in future updates (and I would absolutely pay 5 bucks for those features as an In-App purchase): 1) The "Love Track" keyboard shortcut (plus notification) is fantastic, I use that feature all the time - but it would be really great if we could set our own global shortcut. 2) NepTunes works with Apple Music for the most part (it scrobbles AM playlists and tracks that have been added to “My Music” and it also scrobbles personal radio stations), but it doesn’t scrobble streamed tracks that aren’t part of a user’s library. It’s a little inconvenient having to add every single track I want to listen to to “My Music”, that’s why my number one feature request would be streaming-support. I don’t know why radio-plays do scrobble while streamed tracks don’t, maybe it’s not even possible to implement support for streamed tracks - but if it’s at all possible, PLEASE make it happen :) Apart from the limitation regarding streaming, I love everything about NepTunes. The menu bar icon is cute, I can “love" tracks and look up similar artists and - most importantly - the app is totally unobtrusive, low on resources and 100% reliable. Thats exactly what I want from a scrobbler. A big "Thank You" to the developer for offering this great app for free :) Edit 22.8.2015: the most recent update of NepTunes delivered BOTH of the features I mentioned in my review just a couple of weeks ago - yay!!! Thank you, Adam, for adding streaming support and for the super-fast turnaround! Also, I love the customizable global shortcuts, this is a great addition and very much appreciated. NepTunes is pretty much flawless at this point and its the only scrobbler for Mac that has been updated since the release of Apple Music, afaik. I highly recommend NepTunes to all Last.fm users, its a great app at an unbeatable price point :)

Thank You

Thanks for creating a scroobler that is actively being developed! High fives all around!

Getting Duplicates

I can’t seem to figure out why i’m getting duplicate scrobbles from this version. Anyone else getting them?

Quick and Simple

That’s all you need for a scrobbler is quick and easy. There are two screens in the preferences. One, you sign in. Two, set some keyboard shortcuts to access the last.fm pages. Personally, I don’t need to access those pages, so after sign-in, I’m done. It’s also nice that the developer made it open source. It is quite sad that last.fm can’t even produce a working scrobbler for its own service.

Works

Seems to work great, replacing Melo with this, but I do wish the menubar icon was vertically centered. Update: stopped scrobbling somehow for an entire month despite being open and logged in. Logging out and back in fixed it, but I don’t think I’ll ever get that month back. One nice thing about Melo was that it would retroactively scrobble tracks. Also, not sure if this scrobbles from my iPhone

A life saver

Thanks for making it possible to scrobble Apple Music to Last.fm! The official app is long time dead and doesn’t work.
